Belonging and next steps

Membership and Baptism

Membership is a way of saying, “This is my church community, and I want to share in its life, worship, service, and care.”

Becoming part of the congregation

Membership at First Christian Church, Anniston is a way of saying, “This is my church community, and I want to share in its life, worship, service, and care.”

As part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), we welcome people into membership through a confession of faith in Jesus Christ. For some, that may be a first public confession of faith. For others, it may be a reaffirmation of faith or a transfer of membership from another congregation.

If you are interested in becoming a member, you are welcome to speak with the pastor. Some people choose to come forward during worship, while others prefer a quieter conversation first. We are glad to help you take the next step in a way that feels clear and meaningful.

Baptism

In the Disciples tradition, baptism is an important sign of faith, belonging, and new life in Christ. First Christian Church practices baptism by immersion, while also honoring the baptisms of other Christian traditions.

If you have already been baptized in another church or denomination, you do not need to be baptized again in order to become part of this congregation.

If you have questions about baptism, membership, or what it means to follow Christ, we welcome those conversations.

Participating in the life of the church

The Christian journey is not meant to be traveled alone. Members are encouraged to worship regularly, grow spiritually, support the ministry of the congregation, serve others, and share in the care of the church community.

Membership also allows a person to vote in congregational meetings and serve in leadership roles within the church.

For students, seasonal residents, or others who remain connected to another home congregation, associate membership may also be available. This allows someone to participate fully in the life of First Christian Church while keeping membership in another church.
